EXERCISE 1

3d scan of an object

EXERCISE 2

3D SCAN OF A SPACE

we discovered that through a simple 3d scan , we can accurately section the couch in any specific place throughout its mass.

EXERCISE 3

Projection mapping and 3d scanning

projection mapping allowed us to project 3d scans of small spaces on to even smaller spaces. we projected these small spaces on to cubby's and sectioned scans, thus revealing the unique form and details of each space.

EXERCISE 4

systematic sectioning of iconic buildings

computer based cutting

In an attempt to continue using architectual sections as a theme to further explore, we decided to section iconic buildings such 'Habitat' every 5 meters. we simplified the sections and printed them using the laser cutter.

EXERCISE 4

computer CONTROLLED cutting

creating a system from sections

our next step was to attemps to create a 3d space from 2d sections. we planned an outdoor seating, storage and rest area that is created from a series of sections we designed.

EXERCISE 5

3d printing

extruding sections and creating a 3 dimensional system that can be a facade, plan or section

Can a section itself be 3d? this question guided us through the act of 3d printing out previously 2d sections. extruding the section and giving it thickness through layered plastic, along with the ability to rotate flip and mirror it creates a new imagined space.

EXERCISE 6 let there be light

an architectural machine

creating a motion sensetive facade

An Architectural machine that allows light only when the viewer is directly in front of the view he wants to see. The system allows a certain level of privacy if the user is not near the window.

We used ultrasonic censors that can detect the distance of an object from the sensor by generating ultrasound energy and receiving it to convert it into electrical signals.

by using a laser cutter we made the fabric and wood parts to fit our design. We also 3D printed the gearwheels that will be a part of the mechanical system. We used fabric as the shades to create a more complex relationship with the movement of the shade that creates more depth and also reflects light in different ways.
